Retailers, Pre-ordering, and DLC Delivery
Your’re getting more than you paid for when when you pre-order! Here are some general retailer guidelines about pre-orders and DLC codes:
How do GameStop video game pre-orders work? GameStop charges $5 when pre-ordering a game. However, this fee becomes credit toward the game once you pick it up. GameStop will print the DLC code on the receipt if you pre-order and pick up the title from the store. If ordering online, GameStop will email the DLC code to you within a few days. If you decide you want to return the game after picking up a pre-order, you will still be able to keep the DLC code!
How do Amazon video game pre-orders work? Amazon will not bill you until the game is shipped. Amazon will email DLC codes a few days after the game is shipped unless otherwise mentioned. This process may occur a few days after a title is released, or a few weeks. Sometimes the code will come packaged in the game. Additionally, you may receive Amazon credit when pre-ordering specific titles. Check the fine print!
Bestbuy typically emails the DLC code to you. Bestbuy’s Rewards Zone Gamer’s Club is free to join and will often provide in store credit when pre-ordering certain titles!
Toys R Us
Toys R Us rarely offers DLC content as a pre-order incentive. However, they often give pre-order discounts of $10-$15 off retail price.
Walmart is less prone to receiving exclusive DLC content. However, it should be noted that you don’t need a receipt when returning games to Walmart. You don’t even have to purchase the game from Walmart, they will take it back in exchange for in store credit as long as the game is in its original wrapping.
